Saperavi is one of the oldest cultivars of Eastern Georgia, and is been the most important grape in Georgian winemaking.
Most Saperavi wines are produced with modern winemaking techniques producing good quality wine, but the most exciting wines are made by winemakers who use the ancient method of fermenting and aging their wines in clay amphorae (pottery vessels) buried in the ground.
Most red wine grapes have red skin and white flesh. Saperavi has dark skin and dark flesh. This combination makes Saperavi wines dark ruby or almost black (Peri means color in Georgian).
Alcohol can be addictive. Always drink in moderation.
